Hi all

I was talking to a freind in Luray West Virginia yesterday and he was telling me about his father who server with the US Rangers. He said his father used old wine bottle corks to blacken there faces as it was a lot easier to remove . I would be interested in seeing any pictures if possible of GI's Using this tecnique.
Have any of you heard of this before ?

Hi Martin,

Quite a popular method by all accounts. Lots of anecdotal evidence of it being done. They also used a wide variety of other materials to serve the purpose too.

Cheers,
Ben.

I've read about it as well. I like to use Kalamazoo myself.

We were still doing this when i was in the forces, its a very tried and trusted method. It is sometimes mixed with a base cream so it lasts a little longer as cork rubs off easily, originally it was mixed with vaseline but this caused shine. So something like a cold cream worked well.
