25/26th September 2010, Skegness- 1st Infantry Division

This is the third year that GI44-45 rebadged as 1st Infantry and endeavoured to recreate the units embarkation and Omaha Beach assault of June 1944. This year we were joined by the 1st Infantry Division Living Group, and Normandy44 Living history group.

Despite dire weather we had a great time.

Corporal Murphy does his best to entertain the troops, first he tries his “Ghoul” impression


Failing that he uses his Irish Charm to persuade Miss Marina Mae to do raise the troops morale with some songs from home..



Causing some amongst the group to get on to the dance floor..

Corporal Murphy looks on not impressed by the dancing skills of the privates...

He hatches a plan.....


....and soon the Irishman is dancing a merry jig on the dance floor.






After all that work it’s time for some coca-cola which PFC Touretti managed to “acquire” from the PX...

You know what? Sat here working in my nice warm office i have to confess that a part of me wishes i was still there with you guys despite the wind and rain...

I guess that weather has given me a fever and affected my brain but you get my drift!!!!!

Great Pics. and yes despite the weather I really did enjoy myself. When Paul blew that whistle and we started moving up the beach I forgot all about being cold and wet. Totally understand what you mean Dan, we are all a little mad but it gives us a chance to do something that we are interested in with like minded individuals.

Likewise Murph. When I was concentrating on firing everything became a blur. Didn't hear the mortar going off, or anything else for that matter. Could hear a few voices, but I guess that it was much the same in 1944. Can't wait to do it again. Oh, and I think thanks to Jeanette for the battle photos they look really good. I would like a copy of the last one with the five of us pretty please.

What happened to the landing crafts? No pics on them?

There never have been Landing Craft before Vic. They're too expensive to get from Hugh's Movie Supplies down on the south coast. Don't you think they would have been photographed previous years if we'd had them?

We did! But via LPC's (Leather Personnel Carriers) as apposed to the large gray things!!!

I'm getting absolutely nowhere with it, so I've decided to wait and update the thread again next time he posts. It's a battle of attrition and I'm sure I'll get an explanation, if nothing else, if I keep it up long enough.

I spoke to Wullie about it at the weekend. Diffuclt situation, but moreso odd, why would a debtor post on a thread that relates to him!???????
