Re: Advice for beginner !
Received the boots today and they fit ! Now have to dub them. the only thing I found at the supermarket is a Kiwi stuff for sport shoes (but not for nubbuck as mentioned on the tin). It's clear colored. Should that be ok or do I have to find something else ?
thanks again for your help !
PS : busy reading field manuals to act a bit as a GI for fort Amherst...

Re: Advice for beginner !
Pat, you really want to try and get some Dubbin. I seem to remember Stock Ardennes in Belgium had a lot of this stuff available, but it was almost like a chocolate mousse consistency. Try here:

Ben.

Re: Advice for beginner !
Thanks ! Will get 2 tins of Grafters dubbin (neutral).
cheers
Pat
Edit : dubbin is not expensive but £14 for shipping is outragous... will have to find another solution. I'll try to find some in France.
cheers

Re: Advice for beginner !
hi pat, the boots i got were fairly light colour and first i covered them in brown boot polish which darkened them up, ive seen later sof boots which are darker and may just need dubbing.

Re: Advice for beginner !
Yeah, that's a good point actually Riz! You might want to use some polish on them first, Pat. Of course you could always go with the stuff the GIs used; axle grease!
Cheers,
Ben.

Pat I use the KIWI dubbin for football boots and its fine, darkens the boots up no problem. AND its cheap....

Plus if worst comes to worst just wait until you get here and we can dubbin your boots at the event, sort of a FNG thing...

Opening up this post again for Andy and anyone else looking to join up with GI 44-45 in the new year, it's a good example of where to start with your impression etc.

Any other advice ? Service of supply don't seem to sell them; I find SOF ones like good (although I've never seen an original one)

In fairness I think the SOF ones are pretty good, they should be as I think they are selling for £8 or so.

The best 82d patches I've seen were from Andrew Butler in Sainte-Mere:

Re: Advice for beginner !
Thanks for your answers mates, I think I'm going to go for an A. Butler repro : it seems to be more accurate and from better fabric although a bit more expensive than others (but better to go first for quality).
