[REF] Outfit, Cooking Small Detachment
This is intended as a reference thread on the Outfit, Cooking Small Detachment. It was a man portable cooker designed to serve between 15 and 40 men in 'isolated positions'. Originally intended to run off Gasoline. The cooker is dated November 1944 and was originally shipped to Australia from the US for use by their army. In the event it was never used and although the original crate was opened and inspected by the Australian Army in 1951 the item is unused. Everything is original and still wrapped in grease proof paper. It even came with a hand checked tick list of the items. It is a mint example.
I will post some general pictures for now but ultimately I will document all the items for the sake of history!
I've preserved the original packing case as I know someone who will be interested in this and might be able to knock together a nice repro case for general use.

Re: [REF] Outfit, Cooking Small Detachment
I've been having a good look through it all and those helpful Yankees have included spare parts (think Colemans) including spare gas can connectors and also spare burner and smoke stack.
I will investigate adapting it to run on gas but if I'm honest there does not seem to be any real reason for not running it off a US ARMY jerrycan as it was meant to be, does anyone have or know where I can source one of these? It appears you should be able to screw the adapter into the top of the can. If no one has one can I ask for you all to start keeping the eyes out for one and I will purchase it!
I hope you will all agree this should really give our group an edge when doing displays, not to mention it's bloomin practical.

Fantastic stuff indeed Murph, a great purchase indeed. Could you please send me a copy of the Technical Bulletin included in the kit please?
How did you get on with you with your A-Levels, Gilly?
Thanks for sharing this little gem!
Ben.

Re: [REF] Outfit, Cooking Small Detachment
Not too difficult to be honest - make sure you don't get a post-WW2 one though!
Cheers,
Ben.

No. It's got to be WW2 spec or not at all if we are going to use it with the stove otherwise I will have to convert it to gas which I would rather not do until we have at least tried the official method!
