Bunkerbash 15/16th May 2010
GI44-45 spent this weekend at the (not-so-secret) Nuclear Bunker at Kelvendon Hatch. Our display this year had us recreating a 28th Infantry Division 60mm mortar squad, ”Somewhere in Europe”. Thanks to our hosts for the chance to dig in and live the dream!!!
It was a great weekend, with good weather, some fine Victory beer and an opportunity for us to catch up with old and new friends, including Gary Bainbridge and Ramsey “firestarter” Green, and to try out our 60mm mortar. This is some members of the group last event before Normandy and sleeping out gave us a chance to see how it’s going to feel for six days!!!
As usual “Tab” on any photo to take you to the whole album on webshots, and whilst there check out other images of the group at various events.

yep, great event, weather saturday was great, sunday we just got packed up before the rain came. ben and me kipped in the trench and mr costino kipped under the shelter, bit of a dry run for normandy, living the dream. a steady stream of mops both days, the morter displays went down very well, bringing people over to our stand.

Have to say guys I think these Pics. are just about the best we have done to date! The advantage of being able to dig in I guess. You really can imagine it as was, very good, well done to all.

Funnily enough I said to Rizla over the weekend, after looking at our display, we've come a long way since Crich a few years back!

Re: Bunkerbash 15/16th May 2010
Without a doubt! We are getting a lot closer to looking like GI's as opposed to some of the rubbish impressions we see out there, the venue helps a great deal but also I love the fact that you are not all stood around in the same uniforms with everything attached to you it's a much more natural look, as I say digging in helps a great deal, suggest we really try to re-create this look for Peak Rail. Trowbridge will be a little less so as we are in a staging area but once again well done to you all.

The extra trench? Clearly dug by Sam as it's for skinny troopers only
